Face cream for autumn/winter: how to choose it and the best ingredients for this season

The change of season must go hand in hand with the change of creams. Those for the cold season must be richer in nourishing and moisturizing ingredients to keep the skin well protected.

While creams with a light consistency should be preferred in summer, vice versa in winter denser and more full-bodied textures are preferable . Just as we change the wardrobe, the beauty routine must also be changed : for autumn we go towards face creams that help protect the skin from falling temperatures, humidity and wind.

With the change of season, the skin of the face has new needs, it needs more attention and the cream must adapt to external factors: in fact, in winter it is more important to nourish and give firmness. We give you some suggestions on how to choose the most suitable face creams for autumn, but also for the upcoming winter.

The behavior of the skin changes with decreasing temperatures : Cold, whether it is the first or the biting winter cold, in fact causes the narrowing of the blood vessels and less oxygenation of the tissues, therefore the cell turnover decreases and the skin surface cracks tending to become opaque and lose brightness.

The textures of autumn and winter skincare, therefore, are generally richer because they are composed of oily substances and fatty acids that allow the skin to be kept hydrated and nourished. Two fundamental actions that keep the barrier function high, thus limiting the appearance of the various signs associated with aging.

Not all creams are suitable for all skin types. For sensitive and dry skin, creams must be moisturizing, while oily ones must choose sebum-regulating or moisturizing formulations but with lighter textures so as not to clog the pores.

It must be said that not all the face creams indicated for autumn are the same, not only in terms of their formula but also in terms of function: moisturizing creams keep the level of water in the skin high throughout the day and are made up of humectant and plumping ingredients .

Nourishing creams , on the other hand, contain emollient substances, are denser and protect against external aggressions and act on dry and dehydrated skin that appears damaged and chapped.

Furthermore, hydration is mainly given by hyaluronic acid , while the nourishing factor by vitamins . Both types are ideal for the day. Important: it is preferable that creams, even in autumn and winter, contain a protection factor especially for those suffering from spots and molasses. For the evening, on the other hand, it is better to opt for an anti-aging action, guaranteeing protection from oxidative stress, and promoting the natural production of collagen.

The ingredients therefore play a fundamental role : the more the cold increases, the more useful it is to use skincare remedies based on hyaluronic acid, collagen, natural oils, cera alba, etc., all of which are oily in nature and also have a protective function. Furthermore, it is better to choose products with group B and E vitamins that guarantee epidermal nourishment, natural ingredients such as plant extracts, flowers and fruits that help soothe the dermis. Indispensable, from the age of 30 onwards, is also the presence of hyaluronic acid which helps to improve elasticity and carries out a preventive anti-aging action.

You can choose whether to use them separately or in a single product based on age and skin type: usually a single solution is better for younger and oily skin, vice versa in other cases.
